Hon. Enock Phale, MP, is a seasoned clinician with 14 years of clinical dental practice experience across various hospitals in Malawi. He dedicated a decade of his career to the
Malawi Ministry of Health, serving as Assistant Director of Clinical Services until 2018. He then retired to successfully run for the Parliamentary seat of Salima North West constituency,
where he currently serves as MP.
Professional Achievements
During his tenure at the Ministry of Health, Hon. Phale was appointed to a prestigious seven-member national taskforce. This task force championed the provision of non-discriminatory
services to key and vulnerable populations in the areas of health, justice, religious, and traditional practices. Supported by the Southern Africa AIDS Trust, the Taskforce developed Malawi's first Healthcare Workers' Training Manual on Clinical Infections affecting Key and vulnerable Populations. This work led to the revision of the inclusive Malawi Standard Treatment Guidelines.
Advocacy and Youth Engagement
Hon. Phale is committed to youth advocacy, participating in initiatives to end child marriage and address health emergencies affecting young people. He is also a strong proponent of Universal Health Coverage, continually striving to improve access to health services for all.
Regional and Parliamentary Roles
At the SADC level, Hon. Phale has served as a member of the Network of African Parliamentarians Committee of Health and Population. Within the Malawi Parliament, he has been an active member of several committees, including Health, Trade, Industry, and Tourism. Currently, he is the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Transport and Public Infrastructure and a member of the Population Caucus. Additionally, he serves as the national Chairperson of the Technical Working Group on Sexual and Reproductive Health
and Rights.
